OpenAI-compatible agent

The quickstart agent with a model in place of the rules: the model reads the conversation and decides which tools to call. The source is examples/openai-agent.

console
pip install -r requirements.txt
export OPENAI_API_KEY=...
export MODEL=gpt-4o-mini
highbar run

OPENAI_BASE_URL points it at another provider or a local server, such as Ollama's http://localhost:11434/v1.

The spec

A model can answer the same message differently, so every test runs several times. The first one accepts four passes in five; the others require every run to pass.

yaml
# A model picks the tools, so the same message can go either way: each test runs
# several times, and states how many runs must pass.
agent:
  start: "python agent.py"
  endpoint: "http://127.0.0.1:8732/chat"

The agent

The tools are recorded by @hb.tool exactly as in the quickstart; only answer() changed. The model's tool calls are executed in a loop until it replies with text.

python
"""A support agent for an online store, where a model decides which tools to call.

It talks to any OpenAI-compatible API, configured by the environment:
OPENAI_API_KEY, OPENAI_BASE_URL (another provider, or a local server) and MODEL.
highbar starts it (`python agent.py`), and the spec checks what the model did.
